The Process
  • Check availability here.

  • Reach out via email/instagram/text/whatsapp for scheduling.

  • Reserve your firing by making a payment. By making a reservation you agree to the terms outlined below.

  • Drop off day before or by noon on the day of firing by appointment.

  • You will be notified once the kiln is cool enough to unload and your work is ready to pickup.

  • Pick up by next business day at an appointed time after you are notified.

Kilns Available
  • Skutt 818-3 with 2.3 cu-ft of capacity. Visit Skutt's website for more info. Firing up to Cone 6. If you need Cone 7 or higher reach out!

Terms
  • Your pieces should be bone dry. Otherwise your reservation will be cancelled for a 50% refund.

  • The studio reserves the right to not fire a piece if the piece is deemed unsafe for firing (example: very thick). It will be returned to you. If you decide to cancel the whole firing you will only be eligible for a 50% refund.

  • All your pieces should have wax resist on the bottom and free of any glaze residue. At the time of firing the studio will inspect and might do additional cleaning if necessary.

  • There should be a minimum of 2mm clearance between the glazed portion and the bottom.

  • Studio will do its best to pack as much as possible into each firing and left over un-fired pieces will be returned to you.

  • We will take utmost care to handle and fire your work but the Studio will not be liable for any accidents that may result in damage to your work during handling/firing.

  • Studio is not responsible for firing defects such as blisters, pinholes, crazing etc that can result for various of reasons that need to be addressed during the process of making your work and glaze application.

  • Custom firing programs or requirements (such as peak hold time or drop and hold) should be communicated otherwise we will run a standard firing program.

  • You will not be penalized for minor glaze runs but make sure you communicate if any of the glazes are on the runnier side and advise if firing cookies need to be used. You will be charged a damage fee if there is excessive damage to the shelves or the kiln.

  • If the studio is unable to fire on the date guaranteed due to unforeseen circumstances we will attempt to reschedule or you will have the option to cancel your reservation for a full refund.

  • If a re-firing is required due to a malfunction in the kiln resulting in an incomplete firing cycle then the studio will try to schedule a re-fire ASAP for free.

  • Cancellations should be made at least 7 days before your booking date for a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days will only be eligible for 50% refund.

  • No long term storage is available for your work. Fired work must be picked up promptly on the next business day. Failure to do so will incur a storage fee of $2/day.

  • These terms are subject to change. The most up to date version will be provided to you at the time of drop off.

Note: At this time we are only offering full load firings. Check back later for communal firings.

FAQs

How long does firing take?

Firing usually takes between 8 to 12 hours depending on the kiln and pottery size.

Can I use any type of clay?

Most standard clays work well, but please check with us if your clay requires special firing conditions.

What are your terms?

We require pottery to be dry and free of cracks before firing.
